New Online Casinos NZ

The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 is in force and DIA is building a licensing system expected to be fully operational in 2027. What it means for 'new' casinos.

New Zealand: the operators on this page hold offshore licences (Curaçao or Anjouan), not a New Zealand licence. Check the DIA for the current status of New Zealand’s online casino licensing regime before you play.

A new market, not just new sites

In most countries, “new online casinos” means recently launched brands. In New Zealand in 2026 it means something bigger: the Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 has commenced, and the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) is building the country’s first licensing system for online casinos. Detailed regulations covering harm minimisation, consumer protection, advertising and operator obligations have been released.

What DIA says happens next

According to DIA, the implementation team is:

  • designing the licensing system for New Zealand online gambling licences;
  • opening expressions of interest, running an auction and assessing applications;
  • setting up monitoring, complaints handling and enforcement;
  • running public education on gambling risks and licensed sites.

DIA expects the regime to be fully operational in 2027.

Until then

Any “new casino” you see advertised to New Zealanders today is licensed overseas. Check its licence in the regulator’s register and read its terms for New Zealand. Our pages on fast withdrawal casinos cover offshore operators whose terms do not exclude New Zealand, with sources for each fact.

Frequently asked questions

Are there licensed New Zealand online casinos yet?

Not yet operating under the new regime. The Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 has commenced and DIA is implementing it in phases; DIA says the system is not expected to be fully operational until 2027.

How will licences be awarded?

DIA describes opening expressions of interest, an auction for the right to apply, and then assessment of licence applications.

What about the overseas sites New Zealanders use today?

DIA notes that New Zealanders use hundreds of overseas gambling websites every day. Those sites are licensed abroad, if at all, and are not regulated by New Zealand.

Will you list newly licensed casinos?

Yes. Once DIA publishes licensed operators, we will list them with their licence details and a source link.
